Sierra's Birthday

Last week Sierra turned 5!!  Wow!!  I can't believe my second is that old.  In my book 5 is a special birthday.  Not that we don't make every birthday special, but 5 is one of those "rites of passage" birthdays.  It means starting school and becoming a big kid.     This year Sierra had her first friend party.  Ah!  They made princess wands and daintily beat up a castle pinata.  They also played games and had a Little Mermaid cake (from Walmart--ugh!!--but Sierra insisted we buy a cake this year instead of have my labor-of-love homemade  cake)  and ice cream.  It was a wild few hours, but Sierra LOVED it and felt very special so it was all worth it.

That night Grandma MJ took the girls out to dinner and to "Jack and the Beanstalk" at the Children's Theater in Salt Lake.  It was a lot of fun.  Mekinley has been to other plays before, but this was Sierra's first.  She was really scared at first, so to make her feel better I told her it was all just pretend.  She took me literally.  Finally during the last five minutes of the play she said, "Mom, those people are real!"  After the play all of the actors and actresses were in the foyer to meet everyone.  Sierra was completely awestruck.  She was still trying to figure it out.  On the drive home she kept asking me questions:  How could Jack be in Salt Lake City shaking her hand?  Didn't the giant die?  What about the girl with the magic harp?  Where does she live?  That's Sierra.  Then last night she made Mekinley and Myles help her reenact the entire play.  I didn't know she had payed such close attention.  She didn't miss a scene.  It was adorable!  She even made them line up after the play to shake hands.  I think this means the play was a success.

Well my birthday and Christmas streak is finally over.  Phew!  It's exhausting having four birthdays and Christmas all within a two month period.  Thank goodness Myles' birthday is in August.

Wow, that is a relief to get all those out of the way. I get stressed with Easter and two birthdays in one week, but yours is worse.

I think 5 is a big one too... Happy Birthday Sierra!!
